Affan Mohd. Nawi, started his first “procurement” stint as a consultant with  A.T.Kearney Inc., more than 15 years ago. Affan was also involved in the implementation of an SAP eProcurement solution for Malaysia’s national oil company, PETRONAS, before joining Malaysia’s Investment arm, Khazanah Nasional in 2006. In Khazanah, Affan was instrumental in the Procurement Transformation efforts and later assisted several Government Linked Companies in their Procurement Transformation journey. 

Affan had had his hands deep in several enterprise transformation projects involving Pantai Holdings Group (now Integrated Health) and UEM Builders. Prior to joining Malakoff, Affan was the General Manager, Category Management, Group Procurement, Telekom Malaysia.  Affan is now the Senior Vice President, Corporate Services Division of Malakoff Berhad.

Malakoff is an Independent Power Producer in Malaysia and overseas, with more than 6,000MW of power generated nationwide. 

Affan graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1996/1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Decision Sciences and Master’s in Information Systems.  Affan is also a Certified Procurement & Supply Chain trainer.

Peter Chen leads the Procurement Capabilities and Operations team of Axiata Group Berhad, one of Asia’s largest telecommunication companies. In his Capabilities role, Chen is responsible for ensuring that Procurement processes, including policies and systems across the Axiata Group are executed in a controlled, effective and efficient manner. He is also responsible to develop the Group-wide functional capability development curriculum for the procurement team at Axiata and its subsidiaries. In addition, his team is also responsible for performance management, reporting, analytics as well as internal process reviews. In his Operations role, Chen leads the procurement function of Axiata Group Corporate headquarters.

Prior to joining Axiata, Chen led the Procurement Performance Excellence team at DiGi, a Telenor company. During his tenure with DiGi, he spent a year in Kolkata, india as part of the team starting up Telenor’s operations there. Chen began his career as an engineer with Motorola before joining Parker Hannifin Aerospace as a Customer Support Manager.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics and Systems Engineering from the National University of Malaysia and an MBA from the University of Leicester

Miss Tianrong Chen has been working as a procurement professional since 2008 with rich experience in both public and private sectors, and is the youngest committee member of CIPS Singapore.

She holds full membership of CIPS (MCIPS) and a Master Degree of Logistics and Supply Chain Management from University of Sheffield. 

Tianrong started her career at Alstom Transport Singapore and was heavily involved with procurement activities for the construction of Singapore’s Circle Line and Downtown Line subway; she also worked in IT procurement field for government sector. Her current role builds on a distinguished 17-year career with Cathay Pacific (CX) Hong Kong, another company under Swire family, where she rose through the ranks of procurement to her final position as a key member of their Strategic Procurement Development team. He implemented lean and effective procurement structure to provide agile services to RHB Banking Group, thus reducing Procurement personnel by 50%, yet managing transactions and activities more than double. Prior to Philips, Ramesh spent the better part of his career transforming and running Supply Chain and Procurement organisations in companies such as Hewlett Packard, Motorola and Hughes Software Systems. He started his career with the Indian Armed Forces as a commissioned officer. Ramesh has worked in senior leadership positions with P&L responsibilties both in general management and supply chain development capacities in Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and Asia Pacific and Japan regions. 


Ramesh is a thought leader in Procurement and Supply Chain and makes valuable contribution to the industry by speaking in various professional procurement forums. He has published various white papers on Strategic Sourcing and supplier management and is an Advisor to the PSB Academy Singapore as a part of the Science and Advisory Panel.

Arun Kumar is responsible for the design and establishment of a Global Procurement Function at Perfetti Van Melle (PVM), a market leader in Sugar Confectionery, whose brands include Mentos, Chupa Chups, Fruitella and Alpenliebe. Arun’s prior assignment in PVM was to lead the Supply Chain Function of PVM Asia Pacific. His key responsibilities include Regional Sourcing, Demand Management, Capacity Planning and Customer Fulfilment. In this role, Arun led the Supply Chain teams of PVM in Asia which, between them, serviced over 15 Asian markets and several markets outside Asia. Arun was also member of the PVM’s Global Supply Chain Leadership Team. Before this, Arun lead the Supply Chain of PVM India where Arun was instrumental in designing and establishing a Service Level System for Customer Fulfilment. In a price inelastic market, Arun led the Sourcing Team in generating sustainable and continuous savings by leveraging vendor relationships and working collaboratively with vendors.

Sam Walsh was Rio Tinto chief executive from January 2013 to July 2016, the culmination of a 25-year career with the international mining group. Prior to his appointment as chief executive, he led a number of Rio Tinto’s product groups including Aluminium (2001-2004) and Iron Ore (2004-2013) and in 2009 he
joined the Rio Tinto board as a director.

Sam started his career as a Trainee Buyer in the automotive industry, and worked for 20 years in senior leadership roles with General Motors and Nissan Australia. Sam was Head of Materials Management at GMH in Australia and Director of Engineering and Supply at Nissan Australia ultimately becoming Executive Director of Operations at Nissan Australia.

Sam has played a key role in charity, community and business associations in Australia and the United Kingdom. In recognition of his distinguished service to the mining industry and the community of Western Australia, Sam was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2010.

A strong supporter of the arts, Sam was awarded honorary life membership of the Western Australian Chamber of Arts and Culture and made a patron of the Western Australian State Theatre. In 2014 he was appointed a Trustee of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Foundation.

Sam’s keen interest in supporting international trade led to his membership in 2014 of the B20 Australian Leadership Group and his appointment in 2015 as co-chair of the Australia-India CEO Forum. 

In 2012, he was awarded a Gold Medal by the Australian Institute of Company Directors and between 2008 and 2013 he was a director of Australia’s largest diversified media company, Seven West Media. 

In 2013 he was awarded CIPS Award for CEO Procurement Champion at the Supply Management Awards. Sam is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, the Australian Institute of Management, the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and was previously a member of the International Council on Mining and Metals.

He has a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University and has completed a Fellowship Program at Kettering University in Michigan.
