Chae-Ung Um

Chae-Ung Um is the Corporate Senior VP of Global Procurement Strategy & General Procurement (GP) at LG Electronics (LGE) HQ in South Korea.  Chae is responsible for developing and implementing strategic procurement policies and initiatives for LGE and its 88+ subsidiaries around the globe. 

His leadership has helped transform LGE General Procurement into one of the leading global procurement teams of the industry.  For these efforts, Chae was awarded the Procurement Leader Award for his individual impact on the wider business in procurement and Transformation Award for his leadership in guiding the corporate procurement organization towards the 21st Century.  To top it off, in 2016, LGE was awarded the most prestigious “Procurement Excellence” Award.  He is also a key contributor for LGE’s winning the Gene R. Richter Award in 2010 for the category of “Organizational Development” as well as winning 2013 Korea ISM & KAPSM for Procurement Innovation Category.  

Chae has held multiple leadership roles in sales, global strategic sourcing, product management, and service operations for companies such as Pfizer Inc., Merck, GE and Siemens (previously, known as Praxair Inc.).  From these various positions, he has gained global experience in the USA, Australia, Korea, and Singapore focusing on business transformation through global scale initiatives in strategic sourcing, supply chain management and Six Sigma operations.  Chae began his civilian career in 1993 after serving in the US Army for 6.5 years. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds an International MBA from Baldwin Wallace College.
